Audio Editor

Use Studio’s Audio Editor to build a multi-track mix from uploaded audio or completed session audio, edit clips on a timeline, and export a mixed result.

Usage

Use Audio Editor when you need a lightweight multi-track workspace for arranging, trimming, and mixing audio before you download a final file.

This workflow is useful for combining uploaded audio with existing session audio, adjusting timing, changing playback speed, balancing track volume and pan, and preparing a clean mixdown.

Audio Editor is part of the Studio menu. Open it from Studio → Audio Editor when you want to work directly with audio tracks instead of a transcript-first session page.

Before you start

Audio Editor only accepts audio sources. Local upload currently supports `.mp3`, `.wav`, `.m4a`, and `.aac` files.

Session import uses audio from completed workspace sessions. If a session is still processing or does not expose playable audio, import can fail.

Local uploads and the current draft are stored in this browser. If you clear the local draft, switch browsers, or remove local stored files, re-add the missing audio before mixing down.

Mixdown can run for projects up to the current editor duration limit. Very long or invalid timelines are blocked before submission.

AI edits, mixdown, Vocal Separation, and Vocal Repair can depend on sign-in state, plan access, and available quota. If an upgrade prompt appears, review Billing before retrying.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Open Audio Editor

Go to Studio → Audio Editor from the left sidebar. The editor opens with an empty timeline if no local draft exists in this browser.

  2. Add audio tracks

Click Add track, then choose Upload for local audio files or Session for completed workspace sessions. Each added source becomes a track and clip on the timeline.

  3. Edit clips on the timeline

Select clips, move them along the timeline, trim start or end handles, split at the playhead, adjust playback speed, and use undo or redo while shaping the mix.

  4. Use track controls and the inspector

Use mute, solo, track volume, and pan controls to balance tracks. Select a clip, track, or mix area so the inspector shows the matching position, speed, fade, processing, and render settings.

  5. Ask for an AI edit when useful

Use the Audio Editor Assistant when you want VoxStudio to prepare an executable edit plan, such as changing speed, moving tracks, adding fades, splitting clips, or setting mix options. Review the proposed result before applying it.

  6. Mix down the project

When the timeline sounds right, review normalize, limiter, bitrate, and optional render-time track processing, then click Mix down. VoxStudio submits the background task and shows progress while it runs.

  7. Download the result

After mixdown completes, use Download to save the mixed audio output. If the task fails or the result URL cannot load, retry after checking the source files and timeline state.

Tips and examples

Keep source files in the same browser until the mix is finished. Local uploads are needed again when the editor prepares a server-side mixdown.

Use session audio when the source already exists in VoxStudio. It avoids another local upload and keeps the mix tied to a known session source.

Trim and align clips before changing detailed gain, pan, or fade settings. Timing problems are easier to fix while the project is still simple.

Use Vocal Separation or Vocal Repair as render-time processing only when a track needs that cleanup. Leaving unnecessary processing off keeps mixdown simpler.

If AI edit results do not match your intent, revise the prompt with concrete track numbers, time positions, or selected clips instead of applying a vague plan.

Common problems and fixes

Why can’t I upload my file to Audio Editor?

Audio Editor only accepts supported audio files in the local upload path. Re-export the source as MP3, WAV, M4A, or AAC and confirm the file contains playable audio before trying again.

Why did session import fail?

The session may still be processing, may not have a playable audio artifact, or may not be available to the current account. Wait for the session to complete, refresh the session list, and try again.

Why is my local draft missing or incomplete?

The editor draft is browser-local. Clearing site data, using a different browser, deleting local stored assets, or clearing the local draft can remove uploaded source files from the editor.

Why does Mix down say a local upload is missing?

The timeline still references an uploaded source file that is no longer available in this browser. Re-add the file or clear the broken track before submitting mixdown again.

Why did mixdown fail or stop updating?

The mix task may have rejected an invalid timeline, an oversized source, a missing upload, or a temporary progress connection issue. Check source availability, shorten invalid ranges, and retry the mixdown.

Why is AI editing unavailable?

AI edits require sign-in, audio on the timeline, and plan access for Audio Editor AI edit features. Add audio first, sign in if needed, or review the upgrade prompt.

Why did Vocal Separation or Vocal Repair not change the track preview immediately?

Those processing options are applied when Mix down runs. The timeline preview remains focused on the current editable source mix before render-time processing.

FAQ

How is Audio Editor different from Vocal Separation or Vocal Repair?

Audio Editor is a multi-track timeline and mixdown workspace. Vocal Separation splits vocals and background, while Vocal Repair improves a voice track. Audio Editor can use those tools as optional processing during mixdown.

Do I need to transcribe audio before using Audio Editor?

No. You can upload supported audio files directly. Transcription is only needed if you want to import audio from an existing session or use session context elsewhere.

Can Audio Editor work with video files?

The local Audio Editor upload path is audio-only. If you need audio from a video, first create or use a session that exposes playable audio, or extract the audio outside the editor.

Does clearing the editor delete my original session?

No. Clearing the local draft removes tracks, clips, local uploads, and mix state from this browser only. It does not delete server sessions or generated files.

Where do I export the final result?

Use Mix down first. When the background task completes, the editor shows a Download action for the mixed audio output.

Can chatbot or the Audio Editor Assistant edit the timeline for me?

Yes. In Audio Editor, the assistant can turn a written instruction into an edit plan for the current timeline. Review the plan and apply it only when it matches the change you want.
